Asma Jahangir dies at 66
Asma Jahangir was former president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Noted human rights lawyer and social activist Asma Jahangir has on Sunday passed away at the age of 66, Dunya News reported.
Asma Jahangir was shifted to hospital after she felt pain in heart but could not survive the cardiac arrest. She was former president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
Bio
Asma Jahangir was born on January 27, 1952. She done her bachelors from Kinnaird College and LLB from the Punjab University (PU). She also received an honorary doctorate from University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, Queens University, Canada, Simon Fraser University, Canada and Cornell University, United States.
Asma Jahangir won many national as well as international awards including Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders in 1995, Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2010, and various others. She was co-founder of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and also chaired it.
Asma Jahangir was elected as SCBA president on October 27, 2010. She herself fought the case of her father’s freedom after other lawyers refused to take the case and won.
