Farooq Sattar, MQM-P Rabita Committee nominate separate candidates for Senate elections
Sattar has agreed upon chairing a meeting at party's temporary Bahadurabad headquarters
KARACHI (Dunya News) - Amid the ongoing rift within the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Rabita Committee and Farooq Sattar have decided to nominate their own candidates for the upcoming Senate elections.
Sattar has agreed upon chairing a meeting at party’s temporary Bahadurabad headquarters.
Both the groups will put forward their nominated names and will finalize them with mutual agreement, Farooq Sattar said during media talk.
His nominated candidates include Kamran Tessori, Khawaja Sohail Mansoor and Farhan Chishti.
Earlier, the efforts of a three-member arbitration committee including Khawaja Izhar and Rauf Siddiqui to reconcile the factions also went in vain.
The committee reached Bahadurabad after which Rabta Committee members held a press conference. Faisal Sabzwari rejected the politics of money and said that MQM-P is not for sale.
He maintained that repeated insistence is being made to send one person to Senate. Sabzwari said that convener and deputy do not possess discretionary authority.
He declared that Rabta Committee can decide over simple majority as per party constitution.
Faisal Sabzwari criticized that Farooq Sattar’s statements circulate around Kamran Tessori but the Rabta Committee refuses to accept his demamds.
He announced that they have finalized four names for Senate candidacy.
On the other hand, Farooq Sattar remains tact on his position threatening that he shouldn’t be forced to change his decision or else he would reveal numerous secrets.
Sattar indicated that he will submit the nomination papers of his own selected candidates.
A row hit MQM-P after Rabta Committee removed Kamran Tessori, Sattar’s favoured candidate for Senate elections, from the coordination committee and suspended him for six months.
The suspension resulted into a split within the party with Farooq Sattar coming at odds with the Rabta Committee members.
