ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court has issued a contempt of court notice to Minister of Privatisation Daniyal Aziz today (Friday).

Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court also initiated contempt proceedings against State Minister Talal Chaudhry on account of "derogatory and contemptuous speeches/statements" with regard to the honourable court.

While equating judges with idols during the PML-N’s Jaranwala rally, Talal Chaudhry had urged Nawaz Sharif to oust them from courts. He said there was no hope of justice till these judges were sitting in the courts.

Another PMLN leader and senator Nehal Hashmi was jailed for one month over similar charges on Thursday.

In his May 28 speech, Hashmi had triggered a political storm by threatening the members of the joint investigation team (JIT) and Supreme Court judges of “dire consequences” after their retirement for probing Sharif family in connection with Panama Papers case.

Following the court verdict, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) also de-notified Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nehal Hashmi from the Upper House of Parliament.

In a notification issued today, the ECP said “in terms of Article 63(1)(g) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, the Election Commission of Pakistan hereby issues Notification of disqualification of Nehal Hashmi as Senator with effect from 1.02.2018”.
