Indonesian President Joko Widodo arrives in Pakistan

President Mamnoon Hussain welcomed the Indonesian counterpart upon his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - President of Indonesia Ir. H. Joko Widodo along-with First Lady of Indonesia Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo has arrived on an official visit to Pakistan. He is also accompanied by an official delegation.

President Mamnoon Hussain and First Lady Begum Mahmooda Mamnoon Hussain welcomed the Indonesian President upon his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase, Islamabad.



Minister for Energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq and senior officials were also present on the occasion. Indonesian President was greeted with a 21- guns salute on his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase.  

This is the first visit of President Widodo to Pakistan. In 2012, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited Pakistan to attend D-8 Summit. President Mamnoon Hussain participated in the Extraordinary Summit of OIC on Palestine and Al Quds Shareef in Jakarta in March 2016.

During his visit, President Widodo will address a Joint Session of the Parliament and holds talks with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Pakistan and Indonesia enjoy close historical and cordial relations. Indonesia is the 8th largest trading partner of Pakistan and the largest trading partner in the ASEAN region. Pakistan’s bilateral trade with Indonesia stands around US$ 2.1 billion annually.

Pakistan is one of the largest importers of Indonesian palm oil. Bilateral trade is expected to grow manifold with grant of duty free access to 20 tariff lines from Pakistan for export to Indonesia under the ambit of Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA). During recent years, bilateral political, parliamentary, economic, defence and people to people contacts have seen a substantial increase.
