LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has on Monday rejected the petition seeking to halt January 17 protests against the federal government.

Justice Shahid Kareem conducted the hearing on Advocate AK Dogar’s plea. The petitioner had opted the stance that the announcement to stage sit-ins against the incumbent government is illegal and against the Act-124 of the constitution.

He requested the court to give verdict against holding the protest as it may spread anarchy across the country. While rejecting the request, the LHC recommended to make a larger bench to hear the proceedings.

Let it be known that steering committee of opposition parties over Model Town tragedy had agreed to launch protest movement against ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on January 17 with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri claiming that the government would dissolve.
