Anti-judiciary speeches: LHC issues notices to Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz

Petitioner's lawyer said that no one is allowed to say anything against judiciary and army.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday has issued notices to ex-prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in a case pertaining to anti-judiciary speeches.

Justice Shahid Kareem conducted hearing on Amna Malik’s petition against the Sharif family during which, the plaintiff said that Nawaz and Maryam had once again criticized courts in Kot Mominabad rally.

Petitioner’s lawyer said that this comes under contempt of court issue and also requested to ban broadcast of Nawaz and Maryam’s speeches. He continued that as per the Constitution, no one is allowed to say anything against judiciary and army.

Subsequently, the court has directed former PM, his daughter and federal government to submit their replies as early as possible.

Earlier, LHC had merged contempt of court petitions against Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz. The judge asked advocate Azhar, why he is not approaching Supreme Court (SC) for this case over which, he responded that LHC can also hold proceeding on it.

On August 10, Nawaz Sharif departed for Lahore from Islamabad via GT Road and reached on August 13 amid applause and love from the passionate Pakistan Muslim-League-Nawaz (PML-N) supporters.

Throughout the journey, Nawaz Sharif addressed in big cities including Gujrat, Gujranwala, Muridke and Lahore and denied the SC decision, asking his workers to support him.
