CJP takes suo moto notice of poor conditions in Lahore's government hospitals

Detailed reports were sought from the medical superintendents at government hospitals by Jan 6

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) in Supreme Court Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took suo moto notice of the poor condition of government-controlled hospitals across Lahore.

He ordered the medical superintendents in all 19 government hospitals to submit detailed reports in the Lahore Registry by January 6. Justice Nisar also asked the medical superintendents to appear in the court in-person along with the reports on the same day.

Notices have been issued in all the government hospitals situated in the second-largest city of the country. The action has been taken after public complaints, the Supreme Court’s spokesperson told.

He added that the medical superintendents will explain the position of their respective hospitals regarding poor healthcare facilities. They are expected to represent reports of whether proper emergency equipment is present in their hospitals. The court has sought details of healthcare necessities like ventilators, angiography machines, oxygen, incubators OTs facility, CT Scan, MRI, ambulances and other facilities. 

It was told that various complaints were submitted in the Lahore Registry of the Supreme Court, asking the judiciary to take action against dysfunctional machinery, unavailability of medicines and poor public healthcare facilities at the government hospitals.
