Allies do not put each other on notice: FO spokesperson

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Office (FO) has responded to comments of United States (US) Vice President Pence’s statement by stating that allies do not put each other on notice.

Statement of the foreign ministry has come in after Mike Pence aimed a jab at Pakistan, reiterating word for word Trump’s warning that it must stop offering cross-border safe havens to Taliban factions and terror groups fighting US troops and their Afghan allies.

Commenting on Vice President Pence s statement regarding Pakistan at Bagram Airfield, FO spokesperson said that the statement is at variance with the extensive conversations we have had with the US administration.

Allies do not put each other on notice, he said.

On notice should be those factors responsible for exponential increase in drug production, expansion of ungoverned spaces, industrial scale corruption, breakdown of governance, and letting Daesh gain a foothold in Afghanistan.

He further said that focus should be on creating peace and reconciliation mechanisms. Finally, externalizing blame should be put on notice.

Pence told hundreds of US troops in a speech in an airport hangar Thursday that too often Pakistan has provided "safe haven" to the Taliban and other terrorist groups. He said that those days are over."

The vice president said that Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with the United States. But he says, "Pakistan has much to lose by continuing to harbor criminals."

Earlier, US Vice President Mike Pence has arrived in Afghanistan on an unannounced trip on Thursday to meet with Afghan leaders and US troops.
