Accountability court awaits IHC verdict, adjourns hearing of NAB references till afternoon

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Accountability court on Monday has adjourned the hearing of Avenfield properties, Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment references against Sharif family until afternoon due to delay in the decision of Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Earlier today, ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz reached the court however, they were directed to appear at 1pm as the decision of IHC over their plea to merge all three National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references yet to come.

During the proceeding, Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Harris requested the court to adjourn the hearing tillTuesday as IHC will announce its verdict at 12pm today.

Opposing the suggestion of Khawaja Harris, NAB prosecutor said it was decided that the statements of witnesses Malik Tayyab Mukhtar and Umar Daraz will be recorded in today’s hearing at any cost over which, Justice Mohammad Bashir said that the court can wait until 1 pm.

Meanwhile, Khawaja Harris asked the judge whether appearance of the accused is necessary in the hearing on which, the court said that the accused have to be present in the proceeding.

On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif had a talk with Harris over his exemption plea as he wants to go London to visit his ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz.

During previous hearing, the Accountability Court had adjourned the hearing of Avenfield properties, Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment references till December 4.

Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Harris told that Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its verdict on a plea seeking to merge all three NAB references.

He continued that no statement can be recorded until decision of IHC comes after which, the court adjourned the hearing without any proceeding.
