Security departments lacked coordination during Faizabad operation, says police report
The report says that at least 173 police personnel sustained injuries during the operation.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Police on Thursday submitted report in Supreme Court related to Faizabad sit-in by Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA).
The report was submitted in the suo moto notice taken by SC over the sit-in and had sought reports from the concerned authorities. It says that at least 5000 personnel of police, Frontier Corps (FC) and Rangers took part in the operation against Faizabad protest.
The report explained that the security personnel remained deployed in the area for 20 days as a result of which they were fatigued to a great extent.
It criticized the electronic and social media for live coverage and providing real time information of the protest. The police report revealed that the tear gas shells used by the personnel remain unaffected against the protesters due to the open area.
On the contrary, the protesters were armed with stones, pistols, axes, rods, teargas shells and masks.
The report disclosed that security departments lacked coordination which led to the failure of the operation whereas at least 173 police personnel sustained injuries during the operation.
The report clarified that after struggling for hours, police succeeded in clearing 80 percent area from the protesters however; additional fresh demonstrators from Rawalpindi joined them and initiated brutal attack on the police and aroused their religious sentiments.
Meanwhile, right-wing movements have continued sit-in protest outside Punjab Assembly on sixth day and are adamant over the resignation demand of Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah, despite leaders of religious parties calling off Faizabad sit-in after 22 days of agitation.
Local leaders of allegedly religiously moved protesters have expressed reservations over the agreement signed between the federal government and chief of Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) and announced to continue protest outside the assembly.
