Govt, religious parties strike deal to end sit-in after Zahid Hamid's resignation
Religious parties staging sit-in protest at Faizabad Interchange decided to call off their protest
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Religious parties staging a sit-in protest at the Faizabad Interchange in Islamabad decided to call off their protest after reaching an agreement with government, Dunya News reported on Monday.
Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Federal Interior Secretary Arshad Mirza signed the agreement from government’s side while Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi, Pir Afzal Qadri and Muhammad Waheed Noor signed the agreement from on behalf of the religious patries.
It was also decided in the agreement that persons detained by the government from across the country during 22-day protests would be released within three days and cases against them would also be withdrawn.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Law Zahid Hamid resigned from his office on Monday.
The government sources also informed that Federal Minister for Law Zahid Hamid handed his resignation to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
Zahid Hamid has reportedly said that he was resigning only to resolve the current crisis in the country. He further said that has firm belief in the finality of Prophethood (PBUH) and did not believe that anything he had done was wrong.
Zahid Hamid’s resignation came a day after deadly clashes between Tehreek-e-Labbaik protesters and police in Islamabad left seven people dead and 417 injured.
