Educational institutions to remain closed for two days in Punjab
The decision will be applicable on all private and government educational institutions.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Provincial Minster for Education Rana Mashhood has said on Sunday that all the educational institutions in Punjab will remain closed for two days due to the ongoing protests.
According to details, the decision will be applicable on all private and government educational institutions. The minister said that the decision was taken while keeping in view the current aggravated situation in the country.
“The situation in the country is quite tense. As the negotiations are ongoing, we are hopeful that the circumstances will improve in the next two days. We are trying to do away with the confusion and control the emotions. Punjab government is trying its best and is in contact with the authorities. We are optimistic that our protesting brothers will understand the stance of the government. In view of the situation, we have decided to close the educational institutions for two days,” said Rana Mashood while talking exclusively to Dunya News.
At present, sit-ins are being held and roads have been blocked at 19 points in Lahore including Mall Road, Shahdara Morr, Babu Sabu, Amamia Colony railway crossing, Thokar Niaz Baig, Faisal Chowk, Chungi Amar Sidhu, Ferozpur Road and Ichra.
Protestors have also staged sit-in outside Punjab Assembly at Charing Cross while Rangers personnel have also been deployed at the scene to protect the provincial assembly building.
Roads at Paka Mail and Thokar Terminal have been blocked with containers, causing problems for the motorists.
Sit-in protest by Tehreek-e-Labaik has entered 21st day in Faizabad while the federal government has summoned army men to control the situation. On Saturday, violent clashes between protestors and law enforcement personnel left seven dead and 417 injured. Countrywide protests erupted when police and paramilitary forces fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse Tehreek-e-Labaik protestors from Faizabad.

The protesting body has demanded the resignation of Law Minister Zahid Hamid after the alleged removal of Khatm-e-Nabuwwat clause from the nomination papers. Both houses of the parliament passed The Elections (Amendment) Bill 2017 and restored Khatm-e-Nabuwwat clause in its original form in the light of constitution however; the protesting body is adamant to its demand.
