A resolution was moved in the Sindh Assembly to condemn the detention of Sharjeel Memon.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon questioned the dual standards of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) while addressing the Sindh Assembly session on Wednesday.

The PPP leader said his name was put on the Exit Control List (ECL) while he was abroad, and was arrested by the NAB as soon as he landed in Pakistan despite having bail papers in his pocket. He termed this behaviour humiliating.

Sharjeel Memon demanded NAB chairman to take notice of the matter, and inquired whether the names of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and others facing NAB cases are also on ECL.

He continued that why the NAB is not treating Nawaz Sharif in the same manner, and why the confinement of his son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar was not revealed. Is there any love relationship between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the NAB, asked Memon. He alleged that the NAB has two different rules for Sharif family and the rest.

Earlier, a resolution was also moved in the Sindh Assembly to condemn the detention of Sharjeel Memon.

The resolution stated, “This House strongly condemns the biased policies of National Accountability Bureau, as shown in the arrest of Honourable Member, Provincial Assembly of Sindh Mr. Sharjeel Inam Memon towards whom evidence personally driven, adopted to tarnish his image and to create a political turmoil.

“The arbitrary treatment by the NAB is completely discriminatory, unlawful and in contrary to Article 25 of the Constitution.

“Honourable member of the House Mr. Sharjeel Inam Memon had returned to Pakistan to face any charges against him. He showed his confidence in the law and Courts of Pakistan for justice. Whereas it may have been expedient for him to not return to Pakistan and counter the accusation against him, proves his commitment to justice and his faith in the judiciary.

“This House also resolves and recommends that the Sindh Government approach the Federal Government to adopt a uniform policy throughout Pakistan Judicial System and to strictly follow it through. No citizen of any status shall have separate law deriving from his caste, religion and or political affiliation. We shall practice and promote equality which will strengthen the public’s confidence in the courts and law.”
