World Polio Day: Amir's story of strong will and determination
Amir Azim suffers from polio but that did not stop him from striving for independence and more.
(Dunya News) – Polio, if contracted, can leave people disabled for the rest of their lives. But there are a few who, despite the disability, sum up the courage to continue on with their lives.
One such person is Muhammad Amir from Karachi. Having contracted polio in his childhood, Amir was left bound to his wheelchair at a very young age.
But that did not deter him. Despite the disability Amir has a strong will and takes an active part in community activities and social work, that too, with enthusiasm.
Amir says if he wasn’t affected with polio, he would have been able to walk on his own legs and nothing would’ve stopped him from becoming a ‘successful man’.
He says he’s astonished to see that people with no disabilities beg on streets instead of making an effort to earn a livelihood.
“Had I not been affected by this virus, I would have been somewhere else in life by now,” says Amir.
