Four FC men martyred, three hurt in landmine blasts in Hangu

HANGU (Dunya News / AFP) - At least four Frontier Corps (FC) personnel embraced martyrdom and three others sustained injuries in landmine blasts in the Kharlachi area of Kurram Agency near the Pak-Afghan border on Sunday.

According to nter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the blasts occurred as security teams searched for militants linked to the kidnapping of a US-Canadian family who were freed last week.  The family were being held by the Taliban-allied Haqqani network in the tribal area until they were rescued during a Pakistani military operation Wednesday.

Four security force troops including a captain embraced shahadat (martyrdom) while three others sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device went off," the military said in a statement.

"The troops were part of a search party for handlers of the rescued foreigners," it added without offering further details.

Officials told AFP the search party belonged to the Frontier Corps, a paramilitary force that provides security in Pakistan’s tribal belt.

FC bomb disposal squad was carrying out a routine checking of landmines in Karsha area of Kharlachi when one of the landmines exploded.

Rescue teams  vehicle arrived at the scene to aid the rescue operation but met with two other explosions. The martyred personnel included Captain Husnain, Lance Naik Dilawar Khan Shah and sepoy Syed Baz and Qadir Khan.

The injured Naik Anwar and Sepoy Zahir Khanwere shifted to Parachinar hospital for medical assistance.

Following the blast, security forces cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation. Moreover, Pakistan Army has tighten the security measures in Kurram Agency headquarter hospital and Parachinar.

On October 5, atleast 21 people including a police constable were killed and 32 injured in a suicide blast at Dargah Pir Rakhel Shah in Fatehpur, a small town in the Jhal Magsi district of Balochistan.
