Security on high alert in Karachi for Muharram

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Security has been put on high alert during the month of Muharram in Karachi while deploying security personnel in various areas to provide peaceful environment to mourners.

The city is being monitored by watch towers and CCTV cameras whereas containers have been place in the surroundings of Nishtar Park. Meanwhile, Rangers and police personnel flag marched in East Zone.



Sindh government has banned pillion riding from Muharram 8-10 and has recommended to suspend mobile service on Muharram 9 and 10.

According to Karachi police security plan, at least 10,000 personnel will be deployed on duty. Special security arrangements have been devised for 6,458 majalis in all the imambargahs of the metropolis and 414 processions.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Imran Yaqoob has also issued special directives to maintain smooth flow of traffic. "Road movement is affected during the processions for which we have amde various diversions," said DIG Traffic Karachi.



Police says that at least 180 hidden cameras have been installed from Nishtar Park to Hussainiya Iranian imambargah for the monitoring of the processions.
