NA-120 Lahore by-election results: Begum Kulsoom Nawaz wins by 13,268 votes

Elections were held in NA-120 on 220 polling stations, tough contest observed between PML-N and PTI

LAHORE: (Web Desk, Dunya News) - Complete result of NA-120 by-election has been obtained and Begum Kulsoom Nawaz of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged victorious with 61,745 votes while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf s (PTI) Dr Yasmin Rashid remained the runner-up with 47,099 votes. A tough contest was observed between Begum Kulsoom Nawaz and Dr Yasmin Rashid. Other popular candidates included Pakistan People s Party s (PPP) Faisal Mir, Jamaat Islami s (JI) Zia ud-Din Ansari and Milli Muslim League s (MML) supported candidate Yaqoob Sheikh.

Yaqoob Sheikh was the surprise package of the election as they remained third in the contest despite contesting elections for the first time. He remained third and secured 5822 votes.

Key information about NA-120 constituency:

The constituency has been divided into 5 police zones, 11 circles, and 23 sub sectors while SPs and DSPs will be in charge of the zones and circles respectively. Six SPs, 17 DSPs, and seven thousand constables will be on duty within the constituency.

The constituency was vacated after former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by Supreme Court of Pakistan on July 28 in Panama Papers case. Nawaz Sharif has been elected many times from this constituency and became prime minister twice from the same area.

9:59 pm: Results completed. PML-N s Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has won the election securing 59,413 votes while PTI s Dr Yasmin Rashid remained runner-up with 46,145 votes. The margin of victory was 13,268 votes.

9:50 pm: After the results of 206 polling stations, PML-N has secured 56,206 votes while PTI has secured 42,783 votes now. The lead is now 13,423 votes.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif pleased with the results in NA-120

9:37 pm: Results from 200 polling stations have arrived and PML-N is now leading with 55,118 votes while Yasmin Rashid has bagged 41,216 votes.

9:36 pm: Results of 195 polling stations have arrived and Kulsoom Nawaz now has 54,103 votes and Dr Yasmin Rashid has secured 40,685 votes so far.

9:34 pm: After the results of 192 polling stations, PML-N now leads with 53,671 votes while PTI follows with 40,386 votes. Kulsoom Nawaz s lead has now swelled to 13,285 votes.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed gratitude over the victory of the party as she clapped along with the supporters at PML-N s Model Town office on the  Wazir-e-Azam Nawaz Sharif  slogans.

ECP declares the experiment of biometric machines successful

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared the experiment of using biometric machines as successful. According to the initial reports, 88 percent of the thumb impressions were verified by these machines while those of 12% could not be recognised.

The voters were reported to be excited by the use of biometric machines. 100 machines were used on 39 polling stations and the detailed reports of the pilot project s results will be forwarded to the higher officials.

9:22 pm: Results of 185 polling stations have arrived and PML-N s Begum Kulsoom Nawaz now leads with 10,809 votes with 35 polling stations to go still. Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has 50,011 votes now while Dr Yasmin Rashid of PTI has secured 39,202 votes.

9:15 pm: PML-N has now risen to 49,176 votes while Yasmin Rashid has bagged 38,635 votes as results of 180 polling stations have arrived out of 220 polling stations.

9:12 pm: PML-N now leads with 9965 votes as the results of 175 polling stations arrive. Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has bagged 47,880 votes while Dr Yasmin Rashid has secured 37,915 votes.

PML-N voters rejoice in NA-120

8:55 pm: Begum Kulsoom Nawaz now leads with 41,608 votes while Dr Yasmin Rashid is now following with 32,693 votes. Kulsoom Nawaz leads with 8915 votes in 155 polling stations.

8:53 pm: PML-N leads with 38,953 votes while PTI follows with 31,177 votes. PML-N now leads with 7776 votes.

8:41 pm: Kulsoom Nawaz now leads with 38253 votes while Yasmin Rashid follows with 30,903 votes. These are results of 145 polling stations out of the total 220.

8:38 pm: PML-N leads with 37,689 votes while PTI follows with 30,342 votes. The lead has swelled to 7347 votes now.

8:33 pm: PML-N s Begum Kulsoom Nawaz leading with 37,142 votes 135 polling stations while PTI s Dr Yasmin Rashid has secured 30,332 votes so far.

PML-N leading with 5997 votes in NA-120 after the results of 125 polling stations.

8:21 pm: PML-N leads with 35,551 votes while PTI follows with 29,554 votes and the lead has risen to 5997 votes.

8:13 pm: Results of 100 polling stations have arrived and PML-N s lead has now risen to 3306 votes as Kulsoom Nawaz bags 29,607 votes and Kulsoom Nawaz follows with 26,301 votes.

Results of 182 polling stations have arrived. PML-N s lead reduced to 1086 votes.

Talking to media in London, former PM Nawaz Sharif said that the party was examining the reports of PML-N workers being abducted.

After 82 polling stations, PML-N leads with 1086 votes. Kulsoom Nawaz has bagged 26,191 votes while Yasmin Rashid has secured 25,105 votes so far. A very tough competition is underway.

7:53 pm: Kulsoom Nawaz leads with 260 votes at Polling Station No 198 Urdu Bazaar. PTI follows with 96 votes.

7:52 pm: PML-N s Kulsoom Nawaz leads with 172 votes at Polling Station No 212 Hall Road while Yasmin Rashid follows with 161 votes.

7:48 pm: Results of 56 polling stations arrive. PML-N now leads with about 1800 votes. Kulsoom Nawaz has secured 16,057 votes while PTI has bagged 14,180 votes. 

7:44 pm: PTI leads with 357 votes at Polling Station No 159 Riwaz Garden while PML-N follows with 217 votes. 

7:41 pm: Begum Kulsoom Nawaz now leads the election with 12,226 votes while Dr Yasmin Rashid follows with 12,027 votes after results of 40 polling stations.

7:38 pm: PTI leads at Polling Station No 245 Sanda Road with 175 votes while PML-N follows with 170 votes.

7:30 pm: PML-N s Begum Kulsoom Nawaz leads with 412 votes at Polling Station No 197 Urdu Bazaar while PTI secured 182 votes here. Milli Muslim League got 50 votes. 

7:28 pm: PML-N gets 142 votes at Polling Station No 217 King Edward Medical College and PTI secured 128 votes here.

7:27 pm: PML-N wins from Dev Samaj Road Polling Station No 162 with 388 votes while PTI bagged 250 votes.

7:27 pm: PML-N secured 408 votes from Polling Station No 43 Momin Pura while PTI follows with 194 votes. 

After 37 polling stations, PTI leads securing 10,697 votes.

7:21 pm: PML-N s Begum Kulsoom Nawaz secured 199 votes at Polling Staton No 129 Mozang Adda while PTI got 123 votes.

7:20 pm: At polling station no. 206 Bilal Ganj, PML-N got 184 votes while PTI s Dr Yasmin Rashid secured 98 votes.

7:19 pm: PML-N leads with 201 votes at Polling Station No 143 Lake Road. PTI secured 105 votes here.

7:18 pm: PTI leads with 1375 votes at Polling Station No 84 Amin Park against PML-N s 1130. 

7:10 pm: PML-N leads with 262 votes and PTI follows with 258 votes at Polling Station No 148 Fatima Jinnah Medical University. 

7:07 pm: PTI leads with 229 votes at Polling Station No 160 Riwaz Garden while PML-N follows with 217 votes. 

7:00 pm: On Polling Station No 127 Mozang, PML-N leads with 310 votes while PTI s Dr Yasmin Rashid follows with 278 votes.

6:56 pm: Kulsoom Nawaz leads with 393 votes in Polling Station No 150 while PTI s candidate secured 356 votes.

6:55 pm: PML-N leading on Polling Station No 13 Sanda with 290 votes and PTI following with 175 votes.

6:54 pm: PML-N s Kulsoom Nawaz secures 454 votes, followed by PTI s 218 on Polling Station No 41.

6:31 pm: PTI s Yasmin Rashid leads with 10,220 votes in 34 polling stations while PML-N s Kulsoom Nawaz follows with 9103 votes.

PTI supporters rejoicing at the election office

PTI supporters rejoice as Yasmin Rashid takes lead in initial results.

6:18 pm: 23 polling station results: PTI s Yasmin Rashid leads with 7066 votes while PML-N s Kulsoom Nawaz on second number with 5626 votes.

6:13 pm: 20 polling station results: Yasmin Rashid leads with 6120 votes while Begum Kulsoom Nawaz follows with 5019 votes.

6:07 pm: 14 polling station results: Yasmin Rashid leads with 4007 votes while Kulsoom Nawaz follows with 2900 votes.

6:00 pm: 11 polling station results: Yasmin Rashid leads with 2934 votes. PML-N s Kulsoom Nawaz follows with 1747 votes.

PPP secured 408 votes while MML s Yaqoob Sheikh got 253 votes. JI secured 57 votes from these 11 polling stations.

Polling Station No 9: PML-N s Kulsoom Nawaz wins by 449 votes. PTI gets 20 votes.

Polling Station No 10 Bund Road: PML-N secured 51 votes while PTI got 44 votes. Independent candidate got 33 votes while PPP secured 15.
