(Dunya News) - The ground is all set for one of the most anticipated electoral battles in recent times as NA120 gears for a by-election, following the ouster of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who had been elected from this constituency during the 2013 General Election.
Preparations for the polling procedure have been completed, and army personnel have been deployed for security of the polling stations which are at a high security risk.
National Assembly’s constituency of NA-120 has been labelled as the greatest political battle amid strong political rivalry between the ruling PMLN and its arch rival, the PTI. Tough competition between PML-N’s Begum Kulsoom Nawaz and PTI’s Dr. Yasmin Rashid is expected while Peoples Party and other religious parties try hard to make it to the top.
The preparations for the polling procedure reached its final stage with the distribution of electoral material among the presiding officers. The ballot papers have been delivered to the polling stations under the supervision of the army. For the first time in the country’s history, biometric system is being used for by-elections. Biometric equipment has been delivered to 39 polling stations of the constituency.
CCTV cameras will be installed in over 220 polling stations while army and Rangers personnel, who are already present in the constituency, will be overlooking the security of the electoral process.
The constituency has been divided into 5 police zones, 11 circles, and 23 sub sectors while SPs and DSPs will be in charge of the zones and circles respectively. Six SPs, 17 DSPs, and seven thousand constables will be on duty within the constituency.
With political campaigns ending last night Maryam Nawaz has asked the people of NA-120 to cast their votes in their favour, hoping for their loyal vote bank to show their support, while Dr. Yasmin Rashid has accused Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz of ‘buying the voters’.
