ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Political representatives on Tuesday have welcomed the revival of international cricket in Pakistan with Independence Cup and said that the time has come to tell the world that Pakistan is a peaceful country.

Former Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that this step is a great achievement of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but the matches should also be held in other cities of Pakistan.

Member of National Assembly (MNA) Dr Ramesh Kumar has said that Independence Cup would represent positive image of the country across the globe while MNA Ayesha Gulalai also congratulated the whole nation and urged to work for the revival of other sports as well.

Chief of Awami National Party (ANP) Shahi Syed said that politics should not be done on the game.

The government representatives also supported Independence Cup and prayed for its successful execution.

On the other hand, the first Twenty20 International of the three-match Independence Cup between Pakistan and World XI will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today.

The World XI squad comprising 13 players from seven top cricket-playing nations landed in Lahore early Monday amid massive security, with Pakistan hoping the tour will end years of international isolation.
