Ex-PMs wife submitted her nomination papers after PML-N decided to appoint her as their candidate

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) approved nomination papers of Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former premier Nawaz Sharif, as she prepares to contest NA-120 by-election after her husband was disqualified by Supreme Court in Panama case.

ECP rejected the reservations raised by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). She will now contest the NA-120 by-poll which is scheduled in September.

“There is no case of corruption against Nawaz Sharif and these are same allegations Imran Khan has been imposing on our party,” Asif Kirmani said while media talk. He mentioned that returning officer gave full opportunity to their political rivals, but they had no evidence whatsoever.

Kirmani further stated that nine objections were raised against ex-PM’s wife and not a single could be proved. "When RO asked whether we also have any reservation against the candidates, we said no and declared to contest with them in the election, on the basis of votes," he stressed.

Kulsoom Nawaz was to appear before ECP at 3 pm today but she had to leave for London in order to take medical checkup. PAT and PTI candidates had challenged the nomination papers saying the name of a disqualified person’s party cannot be used in the election and her UAE Iqama (work permit) was not affixed with documents. Let it be known that Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah had opined that PML-N can win NA-120 by-poll if they choose Kulsoom Nawaz as their candidate.
