Met Office predicts heavy rainfall, thunderstorm in parts of country

Monsoon currents are penetrating in the country and likely to continue during next few days.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Pakistan Metoerolgical Department (PMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in several cities on Tuesday as the monsoon spell continues in the country.

In the next 24 hours, rain-thunderstorm (with isolated heavy falls) with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Sindh, Balochistan (Zhob, Kalat, Sibbi, Quetta, Naseerabad, Makran divisions), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, Islamabad, upper Punjab (Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions) and Kashmir. Rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in south Punjab (Bahawalpur, Multan, Sahiwal, D.G.Khan divisions) and Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the synoptic situation, seasonal low lies over north Balochistan. Monsoon currents are penetrating in the country and likely to continue during next few days. A shallow westerly wave is still affecting northern parts of the country and likely to persist during two to three days.

The Met Office has also asked the authorities concerned to remain alert during the monsoon spell as there is a high risk of urban and flash flooding in vulnerable areas and landsliding on mountains.

Islamabad and Peshawar 24°C, Lahore 27°C, Karachi 28°C, Quetta 22°C, Gilgit 21°C, Murree 18°C and Muzaffarabad 25°C.
