The tanker rented from Shell oil company was half empty when the mishap took place.

AHMEDPUR SHARQIA (Dunya News) – Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Thursday said the oil tanker that caught blaze in Ahmedpur Sharqia and burned more than 200 people lacked safety standards.

The tanker rented from Shell oil company was half empty when the mishap took place whereas its design was also inappropriate.

The report further declared 50 percent oil tankers as dangerous due to not fulfilling safety standards designated by OGRA and held National Highways Authority, Road Transport Authority and Bomb Disposal Squad responsible for the inferno.

On the other hand, Supreme Court (SC) Karachi registry heard a case pertaining to transfer oil tankers outside Karachi and gave a week deadline after which proper action will be taken against the violators.

In a separate hearing in Lahore High Court (LHC), it was disposed that the permit of oil tanker was expired while Shell company didn’t fulfill its duty for the sake of some money.

Chief Justice of LHC also expressed resentment over the absence of oil tanker officials.
