Dawn Leaks issue not as big as made to be: Nisar
Enemies of Pakistan do not want to see civil-military terms to improve, says the minister
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Minister for the Interior has said on Thursday that Dawn Leaks issue was not as big as it was made to be and that had the government wanted to conceal facts, it would not have formed committee and a commission.
Nisar addressed a press conference in the federal capital and said that there was no falling out between the government and the military. Only in Pakistan, civil-army relations are politicised and not anywhere else, he added.
Enemies of Pakistan do not want to see civil-military terms to improve. He said that relations that civil and military leadership share should be not be subjected to public discussions.
While answering a question, Nisar said that the committee formed over Dawn Leaks concluded the probe on basis of the facts and evidence. The minister said that he was instructed by the higher-ups to have recommendations of the committee implemented upon as they were.
Had the government wanted to protect an official, there would not have two committee formed in the issue.
While talking about founder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, he asserted that red warrant would be issued to Interpol before June 15 and the legal framework of the bid would be strong.
Chaudhry Nisar talked about security agencies accomplishments against trafficking rackets across the country. He said that Gujranwala division has a high number of traffickers whereas the agencies have made numerous arrests in such cases.
He said that the ministry is pursuing blockage of National Identity Cards of all the traffickers who had fled the country.
Traffickers use the most, the border with Iran for illegal activities, Nisar said.
The federal minister said that at least a hundred billion rupees were transferred into foreign accounts from 2005 to 2008 and the ministry traced evidence of around 1.4 million transactions in the last three years.
Nisar accused the previous government of cutting a deal with criminals in Khanani and Kalia case and ending the proceedings. Khanani and Kalia International (Private) Limited was one of the biggest foreign exchange companies until November 2008 when it was closed down over a scam.
The minister announced to issue a notification that would waive off the condition for tourists to acquire a non-objection certification from the federation to visit Gilgit-Baltistan.
It should be noted here that the Ministry of Interior had declared acquisition of an NOC for GB visit a necessity around a year and a half ago.
However, foreign tourists would have to undergo security clearance, he added.
