ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has accepted the invitation of the Custodian of Two Holy Mosques to attend the upcoming US-Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh, the PM’s Office said Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister for Information and Culture Dr Awwad Bin Saleh Al-Awwad extended the invitation to the Prime Minister in a meeting held at the PM House.

The Summit will also be attended by the US President Donald Trump who will mark his first visit to the Kingdom since he assumed the Office as the 45th US President in January 2017.

The meeting will focus on ways to enhance the cooperation between the Muslim Countries and the United States in the fight against extremism.

On Friday, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubair dubbed Trump’s planned visit to Riyadh as "historic", adding that it will "reinforce US-Islamic world ties".

"We have always been a close ally in fighting terrorism and extremism. The visit reflects the US respect to the kingdom’s wise leadership," Al-Jubair told reporters, stressing that Trump’s decision to have Saudi Arabia as his "first stop in his foreign tour shows Riyadh’s status in the Arab and Islamic worlds".

Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia during his first foreign tour later in May that will also include the Vatican and Israel.
