ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Giving his remarks on rumours pertaining to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) move to file review petition against the Supreme Court’s verdict in Panama Papers case, Imran Khan on Monday clarified that there is no such plan yet.

Speaking to journalists on his way to the Supreme Court for proceedings regarding Bani Gala encroachment suo moto case, Imran Khan said his party supports historic decision of the Supreme Court bench.

He further mentioned that a reference will be filed against National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman in the light of Panama case judgment.

When asked about PTI and PML-N workers’ celebrations over the case verdict, Khan said: “One party is celebrating because its leader has been declared liar and corrupt while the other party (PTI) is jubilant because an influential person in the country has been made to stand in the rostrum after a long struggle. The judgment is in front of the nation.”

On Thursday, the Supreme Court ordered to constitute a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate corruption allegations against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family, delaying for two months a decision that could have jeopardized his political future.

The court acted on petitions from opposition lawmakers dating back to documents leaked in 2016 from a Panama-based law firm that indicated Sharif’s sons owned several offshore companies.

The tribunal’s five judges, in a 3-2 vote, decided to give the joint government-intelligence commission two months to probe the allegations.

The commission will have the authority to summon Sharif or anyone else from his family to answer questions on how huge sums ended up abroad in offshore companies, the court statement said.

The opposition used the petitions in an effort to force Sharif, in power since 2013, to resign over alleged tax evasion and concealing foreign investment.
