Windstorm across country claim three lives

At least three people were killed in different parts of the country in Friday's windstorm.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – At least three people were killed in a fierce windstorm that ripped across the country on Friday night, causing failure of electricity in several cities and disrupting flight schedule in Islamabad and other cities, Dunya News reported.

Lahore and dozens of other cities plunged into darkness as high winds disrupted power supply. A number of feeders tripped due to strong winds in Lahore.

A man died in Shahdara near Lahore when a tree uprooted by strong winds fell over him. The deceased, Bisharat, was going to purchase some medicine when the tree fell over him.

Strom also disrupted flight schedule in Rawalpindi and Islamabad creating hardships for the passengers. A Sialkot-bound flight of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) from Jeddah was diverted to Multan.

On the other hand, a man was killed in lightning strike in village Kokar near Dera Ismail Khan while another died in Lower Dir when a wall collapsed due the severe windstorm.

At least two people were wounded when signboards were uprooted in Jaranwala due to strong winds.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) dust-thunderstorm/rain with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in KP, Punjab, Islamabad, FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan and at isolated places in Quetta, Zhob divisions during the next 24 hours. Hot and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
