PTI challenges Cyber Crime Bill in Lahore High Court
The applicant has requested the court to nullify the bill by declaring it unconstitutional.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday has challenged Cyber Crime Bill in Lahore High Court (LHC).
According to details, PTI leader Zubair Khan Niazi has filed an application against the Cyber Crime Bill in LHC saying Federal Cabinet has not taken approval of this act, which is a legal demand.
It has also been pointed out in the application that Cyber Crime Bill is against article 19 (A) of the Constitution.
It is charged in the application that the purpose of this bill is to rule out freedom of speech against the government and its institutions.
The applicant has requested the court to nullify the bill by declaring it unconstitutional.
Cyber Crime Bill was approved earlier this year and punishments were announced as well.
It was decided in the bill that strict action in the form of seven-year imprisonment and Rs 50 lac fine would be taken against those who will capture indecent pictures of children.
The one who will post picture of anyone without permission or will send indecent messages would also be sent to jail for one year along with Rs 10 lac fine.
Fake SIMs holders would also face three-year imprisonment and Rs 5 lac fine whereas tempering of stolen mobile phones was also declared crime with Rs 10 lac fine and three years into custody.
According to the bill, no action will be taken against the culprits without court’s permission while suggestions to establish special cyber crime courts had also been given in the meeting.
