PK-116 flight from Chitral was scheduled to land at Islamabad airport at 05:30pm

CHITRAL (Dunya News) – Islamabad-bound flight of Pakistan International Airline (PIA), carrying around 40 passengers has gone missing on Wednesday.

PK-661 aircraft from Chitral was scheduled to land at Islamabad airport at 05:30pm. Reportedly, air traffic control lost connection with the plane midway.

Dunya News correspondent reported that the plane went missing near Abbottabad. According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the plane last established contact with the control tower in Havelian.

Sources privy to the air authorities reported that the aircraft encountered a mechanical snag and crashed in Piplian, some ten kilometres at distance from Havelian.

Captain Khalid Janjua is the pilot incharge of the flight.

Reportedly, Captain Janjua informed the traffic control of a mechanical issue in his last known conversation. 

Spokesperson for the PIA  said that an emergency response centre was activated and all resources possible were being mobilised to locate the aircraft.

Army copter has started a search operation while contingents have been moved for ground operation. Reportedly, singer Junaid Jamshed was onboard the flight as he was returning to Islamabad.
