QUETTA (Dunya News) - Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has immediately arrived in Quetta today (Tuesday) after terrorists attacked a police training college in the provincial capital, killing over 60 people.

The Army Chief is accompanied by the Director General ISI and the Director General Military Intelligence.

During his visit, General Raheel will be briefed on the tragic incident. He will also inquire about the health of those wounded in the attack.

According to sources, COAS is also expected to attend a meeting regarding law and order.

More than 200 police trainees were stationed at the facility when the attack occurred late on Monday, officials said. Some cadets were taken hostage during the attack, which lasted five hours. Most of the dead were police cadets.

Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, home minister of Baluchistan province, said the gunmen attacked a dormitory inside the training facility while cadets rested and slept.

One of the top military commanders in Baluchistan, General Sher Afgun, told media that calls intercepted between the attackers and their handlers suggested they were from Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ).

Monday night’s assault was the deadliest in Pakistan since a suicide bomber killed 70 people in an attack on mourners gathered at a hospital in Quetta in August.
