Almeida was slapped with a travel restriction on Monday

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Interior Ministry has lifted travel ban on Cyril Almeida, a journalist with an English paper who authored a controversial story that according to the government served a blow to the national security.

Almeida was slapped with a travel restriction on Monday, roughly four days ago after the government learnt he was to fly to Dubai four days after the controversial news saw the light of the day.

In the development that has come today, Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan cleared that the probe in the issue would continue despite omitting his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

Nisar assured Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) and All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) of fair probe while both the organisations of journalists asserted that Almeida would cooperate with the government in the investigation.

A day earlier, Chaudhry Nisar addressed a press conference during which he cleared that the government put Almeida s name on ECL because he was about to fly abroad.

He further said that enemies of Pakistan benefited off his "baseless” report as it helped them further malign country s soft image.

The federal minister reported yesterday that the inquiry would complete within three to four days.
