India cannot revoke Indus Water Treaty unilaterally, Sartaj Aziz tells NA
There will be a befitting reaction from Pakistan if India tries to violate the treaty, NA told.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz told the National Assembly today (Tuesday) that India cannot alternate or revoke the Indus Water Treaty unilaterally.
Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Shireen Mazari and others, the Advisor said there is no provision of suspension in the treaty.
He said if India tries to violate the treaty, there will be a befitting reaction from Pakistan.
Pakistan is gaining support of international community on the issue, he added.
Sartaj Aziz further informed the House that Pakistan is considering to brief P-5 countries and international community about the dangers of suspending the water distribution pact.
He said the treaty was not suspended even during wars between the two countries.
Sartaj Aziz said the provocative statements and actions from Indian leadership on Indus Water Treaty are violation of international laws and breach of water treaty.
The Advisor said Pakistan will not accept any pressure from India and continue to expose brutal Indian atrocities being carried out in Occupied Kashmir by the Indian forces.
He said Pakistan will continue to highlight worsening human rights situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
NA PASSES RESOLUTION
The National Assembly today passed a unanimous resolution condemning the Indian claim in the UN General Assembly that Jammu and Kashmir is integral part of India.
The resolution moved by Syed Naveed Qamar said Indian External Affairs Minister in her speech in the UNGA ignored the fact that Jammu and Kashmir is still on the agenda of UNSC and Indian Occupied Kashmir is universally accepted disputed territory.
