Kashmiri leaders hail PM Nawaz's historic speech at UNGA

SRINAGAR (Dunya News) – Hurriyet leaders have hailed Pakistan’s efforts to highlight Kashmir cause in United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Syed Ali Geelani has said that Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s speech in UNGA has won the hearts of Kashmiri people.

He affirmed that now Kashmiris will not settle to anything less than freedom.

Yasin Malik said that PM Nawaz has exposed the real face of India. He demanded that India should withdraw their troops from occupied Kashmir.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq thanked world leaders for their support to the Kashmir cause.

During PM Nawaz’s speech in UNGA he made the following remarks:

“India has posed unacceptable preconditions to engage in dialogue," he said.

"Talks are in the interests of both countries. They are essential to resolve our differences, especially the occupied Kashmir dispute, and to avert the danger of any escalation."

Sharif repeated a Pakistani call on the United Nations and the international community to investigate atrocities committed by Indian security forces in occupied Kashmir.

"The international community ignores the dangers of rising tensions in South Asia at its own peril," he said.

The death toll in the ongoing Kashmir violence has reached to 116 with the curfew entering 76th day.

According to a British journal, atleast 50 arrests are being made in held Kashmir on daily basis.

Till now, more than 3500 Kashmiris have been taken into custody.

Over 12,000 people have been injured so far due to the firing of pellets, bullets and teargas shells by Indian police and troops on protesters in the ongoing violence, which has left most people blinded.

Internet and mobile networks have also been cut off in a bid to prevent a repeat of the protests.
