PML-N's Masood Khan elected AJK President with 42 votes

A tough competition is being witnessed between Muhammad Masood Khan and Chaudhry Latif Akbar.

MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) - PML-Ns candidate, ex-diplomat Masood Khan has won election for presidency of Azad Jammu and Kashmir after he secured 42 votes defeating PPPs Chaudhry Latif Akbar who managed only six votes, reported on Tuesday.

According to details, the newly-elected members of AJK Legislative Assembly voted today for a president while PTI and Muslim Conference boycotted  the election.

A tough competition was expected between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Muhammad Masood Khan and Chaudhry Latif Akbar from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Earlier, Masood Khan thanked PM Nawaz Sharif for nominating him as PML-N’s candidate for the office of President Azad Kashmir.

Expressing gratitude, Masood Khan said that he would work for the well-being and betterment of the people of Azad Kashmir and would help in highlighting the just freedom cause of occupied Kashmir.

AJK Assembly had also appointed PML-N’s Raja Farooq Haidar Khan as new Prime Minister while former president Sardar Yaqub Khan also administered oath to as many as nine members of AJK cabinet.

Further, PML-N had secured a thumping victory in the AJK elections as they won 33 out of 41 seats whereas Muslim Conference (MC) stood second with three seats.

PPP and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) only won only two seats each whereas Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party (JKPP) secured just one seat.
