I save around Rs 5,000 every month in my electricity bill: Muhammad Rasheed Ramay

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Islamabad Electricity Supplying Company has started provision of net metering system to its customers in a move to buy surplus solar energy from them, reported Wednesday.

Net metering system allows automatic induction of surplus power into Water and Power Development Authority’s system. Subsequently, the amount is waved off from the monthly electricity bill, if they choose to keep a Wapda connection.

According to experts, net metering system helps reduce monthly electricity bill by Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000.

IESCO s move has come in at a time when urban areas are seeing at least six hours of power outage and rural areas are deprived of electricity for eight hours in 24 hours, according to statistics claimed by the government.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his cabinet has vowed numerous times that the government is making efforts to overcome crisis by 2018.

PM Nawaz had inaugurated a solar power park in May this year that generates around 100 Mega Watt electricity while he stated that production would be increased to a 1,000 MW in 2017.

It is country s first solar power project set up with help of friend China.
