Ex-CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry unjustly vies for Islamabad residential plot

Dunya News

Chaudhry has written two letters to Chief Justice of Pakistan, Anwar Zaheer Jamali

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that it would bring shame to judiciary if an ex-CJP has to approach court for allotment of a residential plot, reported Saturday.

The former CJP had denied the same plot in Sector D-12 earlier. Sources privy to the Housing Foundation said that the board had offered the same residential plot to Chaudhry in 2009 while he was in-service but he denied.

The Housing Foundation Board allots residential plots to serving judges and government officials and it is listed in the rules that any retired judge cannot be given the plot.

Sources further stated that in light of the rules and regulations, a senior judge of the Supreme Court is entitled to allotment of the plot that ex-CJP is vying for.

Reportedly, Chaudhry has written two letters to Chief Justice of Pakistan, Anwar Zaheer Jamali.

In 2006, then prime minister, Shaukat Aziz approved a special package for Basic Scale-22 officers that included civil servants and judges of the Supreme Court.

One kanal residential plots in Islamabad were given to the government officials under the scheme.

However, in August 2009, after Chaudhry among several judges were issued allotment letters, the foundation received a letter from the deputy registrar of the Supreme Court stating that the then chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammd Chaudhry had refused the plot.
