2000 ex-army men to be appointed in Sindh police: Nisar
Police played a vital role in improving situation of security in Pakistan, says Interior Minister
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) - Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has on Monday said that 2000 retired army officials will be appointed in the Sindh police to improve the capacity of the police, reported Dunya News.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Nisar said that Pakistan has decided to send its police officials to United Nations (UN) peace missions as well. He added that the police played a vital role in improving the security situation of the country.
Nisar said that the extortion, terrorism, target-killing and kidnappings have dropped sharply during the last two years. "But one incident can take away all the credit away from the police, and there is a strategy behind it. Terrorists do it to discredit the police because they don t have the free space they had in the past", he said.
"There was a time in this country when General Head-Quarters (GHQ) was attacked and remained under attack for 36 hours; our airbases and naval bases were attacked. But that situation is past now. This is why the terrorists are attacking the soft targets now", said Nisar.
The federal minister added that the people must understand that the enemy is not before our eyes. "While we, our people and our security agencies are right before the eyes of the terrorists, the enemy is hidden. It is a tough war and the odds are tilted against the state, yet we are winning this war and the world acknowledges our victory today", he said.
Nisar said that the security agencies had to fight the terrorists keeping in mind the laws of the state while the terrorists did not have to take the laws into consideration. He said that the morale of the nation was down and it was our job to improve our morale. He said that NECTA s meeting will be called after Eid and Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif will head it. He told that the meeting will also be attended by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif.
Interior Minister told that federal crime database was going to be established and NECTA would be heading the information sharing in this regard.
Talking about China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Chaudhry Nisar said that enemy was after it and it must be defended at any cost.
He added that cameras shall be installed around Karachi as they were installed in Safe city project. Nisar stated that most of the calls related to extortion were received from Afghanistan. He stated that a federal crime database shall be made in order to keep record of the relevant data.
Nisar stated that Pakistan army will facilitate Sindh police in its training, adding that the army will not be responsible for recruitments in Sindh police as it shall only be providing assistance. He added that religious scholars shall also be asked to play a role in the war against terrorism. He stated that he discussed security situtation in his meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner in regards to the elections to be held in Azad Kashmir.
Interior Minister said that the army was also on the alert keeping in view the possibility of floods in the country. He stated that the evidences related to the Ayyan Ali case were leading elsewhere. He further stated that it was the right of the citizens, politicans or media personnel to demand for security
