Civil society stages protest against Amjad Sabri's murder

The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the killers of the renowned singer murdered on Wednesday

LAHORE: (Web Desk) - Civil society on Wednesday staged a protest against the brutal killing of renowned Sufi singer Amjad Sabri in Karachi at the hands of unknown gunmen.

Protesting outside Lahore Press Club, the members of the civil society demanded immediate arrest of the killers of the singer and condemned the killings in harsh words. They were carrying placards on the occasion with slogans against religious extremism.

The protest was attended by people from all age groups. They demanded a real ban on the banned outfits. Others reiterated the resolve to continue the puruit of peace through peaceful means.

Various artists shared their thoughts with Dunya News after the tragic incident took place.

Pakistani qawwal and singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan stated that he was extremely sad over the happening, further adding that Amjad Sabri was a wonderful person who breathed his last during the holy month of Ramazan.

Comedian Umer Sharif expressed his grief by stating that “Amjad’s family has been involved in praising God, Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and the saints for ages”. He said that Amjad will achieve a high rank in the hereafter.

Famous actor Adnan Siddiqui said that Amjad was a very loving and caring person.

Actor Fakh-e-Alam held the politicians responsible for Sabri’s death. He said that the politicians of the country are so busy in their own businesses that they do not care about the well-being of other citizens.

Naat reciter Siddiq Ismail while conversing in Dunya News’ programme ‘Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Saath’ broke into tears while remembering Sabri. He said that the qawwal used to help a number of underprivileged families financially.
