Pervaiz Rashid meets Opposition leader to discuss appointment of ECP members

A number of important cases shall be left unheard as a result of retirement of ECP members

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister of Information Pervaiz Rashid on Monday met with Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Syed Khurshid Shah to discuss the appointment of the members of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), reported Dunya News.

Pervaiz Rashid arrived in the chamber of the Opposition leader to have discussion over the issue. Shah stated that the matter regarding the appointment of ECP members should be resolved at the earliest as a number of important cases shall be left unheard during the absence of key members.

Khurshid Shah suggested that Imran Zafar Laghari should be made a member of the parliamentary committee dealing with the matter instead of Ayaz Sumro.

Hearing of key cases, including the one related to Captain Safdar’s assets, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf s (PTI) funds, Speaker NA Ayaz Sadiq’s case against PTI’s affidavits and irregularities in election campaigns, shall be suspended for indefinite time period as a result of the retirement of ECP members.

Talking to Kamran Khan on Dunya News, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid said that things have been going as usual without any hustle.

When asked about his overwhelmed meeting with Opposition leader Khurshid Shah, he said that his chamber was next door to Khurshid’s chamber in National Assembly (NA). He had sent me a packet of dates and that he went to thank him with great humble touching his knees, Rashid said.

He said that had a brief discussion with Khurshid over parliamentary committee. Reacting to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s tweet, he said that bowing down while meeting people was in his nature. Commenting on the meeting was Bilawal’s right, the minister added.

Answering to the questions he said that some elements within the opposition wanted to create chaos by mobilizing people on streets over Panama Leaks issue. Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had been doing dead politics and that people were aware of his doings, Rashid said.

Imran Khan was not in a position to win elections that s why from the beginning he had been trying to take over Prime Minister’s (PM) seat.
