Panama Leaks: Opposition to forward its TORs to govt today
Opposition Leader says transparent investigation into the matter possible through opposition's TORs
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Syed Khurshid Shah stated on Wednesday that the opposition is willing to have dialogue with the government upon the Terms of References (TORs) made in regards to the commission formed to probe into the Panama Leaks, reported Dunya News.
While conversing in Dunya News’ programme “Nuqta-e-Nazar”, Shah stated that there never was a denial regarding dialogue upon the TORs as only a dictator would deny negotiations. He stated that there is nothing wrong with the TORs formed by the opposition parties, adding that Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s name was included in the TORs as he has a moral authority based on the designation he holds. He said that the PM needs to provide answers in regards to his sons being named in the Panama Papers.
“If the sons of the country’s Prime Minister do not pay taxes then how can he expect others to pay taxes?” Shah inquired, adding that the PM is trying to prove his innocene by spending millions in advertisements catering his stance. Khurshid Shah said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was aware that Benazir Bhutto will not assume the status of the country’s Prime Minister for a third time, adding that amendment was done in the constitution during PPP’s tenure to ensure that Nawaz Sharif gets to become the country’s PM for a third time and asked “why would we want that Nawaz Sharif losses his office?”
Furthermore, Leader of the Opposition is done with the consultation of the TORs with other opposition parties which will be forwarded to the government. Shah will write a letter to PM Nawaz tomorrow (May 5), informing him about the Terms of References formed by the opposition parties. Shah stated that he has consulted with other parties over writing a letter to the PM.
Khurshid Shah maintained that transparent investigation in regards to the Panama Leaks issue can be done only through the TORs presented by the opposition parties, adding that “if the PM thinks that the allegations leveled are wrong, then he should not avoid the investigation process”.
