Toxic sweets case: CM Punjab visits Layyah, expresses grief over deaths

As many as 31 people have lost their lives in poisonous sweets case so far.

LAYYAH (Dunya News) – Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Shehbaz Sharif on Monday has arrived in Layyah and expressed condolence over the deaths of as many as 31 people who died after swallowing toxic sweets.

According to details, the minister met the affectees and termed the deaths caused by eating poisonous sweets as miserable.

He also expressed regret for the loss of innocent lives.

The families have put forward their complaints before Shehbaz Sharif regarding continuous neglection from hospital administration.

Talking to locals, CM Punjab said that he is here with the message of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif who has assured to investigate the whole incident and ordered to take stern action aganst the responsible people.

Earlier, toxic sweets has continued to kill more people as Muhammad Shabbir, Mujahid Ahmad were brought to Jinnah Hospital few days ago and lost their lives on Friday, taking death tally to 31.

Layyah’s local administration had received the forensic report of sweets and post-mortem details of the victims according to which, the presence of same poison was confirmed.

On the other hand, seventeen affectees are still under treatment at hospital among which two have been reported in critical condition.

A seven-member inspection team made by Chief Minister (CM) is also gathering the evidence and data.
