Police fear threat to Imran Khan's life, urge PTI to cancel Lahore rally

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab police on Saturday have issued a threat advisory to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan stating to have received an information about possible attack on Imran Khan.
Police department has urged the party leaders to cancel the Lahore rally as a terror attack from Tehreek-e-Taliban’s Sajna Group is feared.
The letter further stated that the party would be responsible in case of any untoward situation.
Meanwhile, PTI has announced to hold warm up rally against corruption to congregate the supporters ahead of Sunday’s public gathering.
PTI is all set to display political power in metropolis as the party is holding a warm up rally from Liberty Chowk to Charing Cross today.
Sources told that the participants will start moving from Liberty Chowk at 5 pm and will reach the main venue under Insaf Tiger Force and other security personnel’s strict monitoring.
The crowd would use Main Boulevard, Gulber and Canal Road route.
On the other hand, preparations for PTI rally at Mall Road have been entered into final phase as the music system, banners and chair arrangements have been done.
Generators have also been placed for the lights whereas the stage would be made in front of Punjab Assembly.
The local administration has asked PTI to change the location but the Punjab government spokesman stated that PTI is adamant to hold the rally on the exact area.
The spokesperson assured that government will fulfill its responsibility by providing security as more than 9000 police personnel would be deployed at the venue while a separate enclusure for women would also be arranged.
Earlier, PTI leader Shoaib Siddiqui reiterated the PTI chairman’s stance, saying that the party is determined and will hold a rally at Lahore’s Charing Cross at all costs.
Siddiqui further stated that Lahore was on its way to ushering in a new era. He added that the party will not be afraid of cases and jails.
