Police detain 23 suspects in different Quetta operations

QUETTA (Dunya News) – Security forces have detained around 23 persons in an operation under suspicion of links with terror outfits, Dunya News reported Saturday.

According to the details, Frontier Corps (FC) and police detained 23 suspects during search operations in Shalkot and Kuchlak areas. On the other hand, police detained three in an operation on Sariab Road.

Police concerned stated that the persons detained from Sariab Road could not produce national identity cards or any material for their identification.

All the detainees have been shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation.

Frontier Corps and police in a joint operation in Sariab area had arrested ten suspects while seized weapons from their possession on Thursday.

According to the corps spokesperson, at least ten suspects were detained in the joint operation conducted by the law enforcement agencies while two rifles were seized from their possession.

The arrested persons were given in complete custody of Balochistan Police for interrogation.

On February 10, Frontier Corps and police had conducted another search operation that resulted in seven arrests.

Sources said that the security forces acted late in the night and carried on operations in Satellite Towna and Surki Road among other areas.

The operations led to arrests of seven persons while different weapons were seized from their possession. TTP pistol, shortgun, cartridges and wireless set were among the items recovered.

On Monday, atleast 19 Afghans including nine members of banned outfit were arrested from Quetta in a search operation led by Frontier Corps in collaboration with intelligence agencies.

An FC spokesperson had said that security forces conducted a raid in Kali Kamalu area and arrested nine suspects whereas 10 illegal Afghan migrants were detained from Ittehad Colony and Kali Mubarik.

FC personnel also recovered two rifles and two pistols during the search operation.

Earlier on February 7, nine including two FC officials died in a blast on Jinnah Road, near Liaquat Park, in Quetta. At least 30 others were injured in the attack.

According to the details, an FC vehicle was targeted on Jinnah Road by a suicide motorcyclist. Balochistan Home Secretary told that a biker collided with the vehicle that caused a massive explosion. The injured included women and children who were passing by.

FC truck among several cars was completely destroyed in the attack.

In January, some 13 policemen were killed in an attack outside a polio vaccination centre in Quetta’s Satellite Town.
Quetta’s Satellite Town was targeted once again in January after that.
