The operation is underway and Rangers, who are leading the strike, are granted extensions in their stay in Sindh’s tenure. Federation received a backlash from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Sindh government, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as the parties alleged law enforcement agencies to have abducted political workers in operation’s name.

However, despite the flak, federation has recently extended Rangers stay by two months. Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar maintained that the paramilitary force was given special policing powers in Karachi in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan.

Karachi has had history of turmoil as an operation named Clean up was launched there in 1992 by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. In current scenario, the targeted operation in Karachi was also launched on final word of Nawaz Sharif.

In 1992, the operation came as counter measure by the government against Jinnahpur plan. The alleged plan aimed at separation of Sindhs metropolitan. The separation was to serve the Muhajirs residing there, the people who had moved to Pakistan post Indo-Pak conflict that sparked violence.
