PIA's JAC announces permanent shutdown of operations
JAC chairman Baloch also announced that a sit in protest will be staged in the PIA headquarters.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Tuesday has announced complete and permanent shutdown of its operations. JAC’s chairman Sohail Baloch stated that they will contact the court for registering case against the killing of 2 PIA employees that occurred earlier during a protest against privatization of the organization. Pakistan Airlines Pilots’ Association (PALPA) has also announced not to take part in any operation.
JAC chairman Baloch also announced that a sit in protest will be staged in the PIA headquarters.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the JAC chairman has demanded that the incident should be investigated under a Justice of the High Court.
The JAC has alleged that attempts are being made to delete the CCTV footage which depicts the firing incident.
Speaking on the matter, PALA’s vice president Captain Sadiq Rehman, in a show of solidarity with the PIA employees, stated that PALPA stands shoulder to shoulder with the employees and refuses to take part in any operation.
Earlier today, Chairman Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Nasir Jafar also announced his resignation onDunya News program ‘Dunya Kamran Khan Key Sath’ citing the Karachi firing incident during PIA employees’ protest.
A JAC delegation also met Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah during which the JAC briefed him about the killing of their colleagues. Shah said that he will make sure that a detailed inquiry of the incident is held and stated that the Sindh government is prepared to form a judicial commission into the matter.
Two workers of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) succumbed to their wounds after law enforcers allegedly opened fire to deter protesters’ movement towards Jinnah terminal.
Sindh Police used water cannon to deter the protesting employees who were furthering towards Jinnah International Airport from the head office while Rangers resorted to baton charge.
The law enforcers have been alleged of opening fire that claimed two lives and injured several others.
A worker of PIA’s engineering wing, Inayat Raza died in a hospital after he was admitted in injured condition. However, Sindh Police East DIG has rejected the claims and said that the personnel did not open fire. There are reports that protesters possessed weapons, he added.
