DHA land scandal: Court remands key criminal in NAB's custody for another two days

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Accountability Court (AC) on Saturday has remanded key culprit of Defense Housing Authority’s (DHA) corruption scandal involving funds up to Rs 16 crore, Hamad Arshad in National Accountability Bureau s (NAB) custody for another two days.
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) maintained in the court that Arshad is accused of Rs 16 crore corruption. The bureau representative added that Arshad devoid martyrs’ families and locals of their right.
The court was requested to extend culprit’s physical remand for further investigation.
Alleged corrupt person’s counsel, Azam Nazeer presented argued against NAB’s request. According to NAB’s spokesperson, Arshad was supposed to launch development project on 25,000 canals land in spirit of an agreement with DHA.
The official said that the accused did not respect the agreement and acquired only 13,000 canals. Funds for the rest of pieces of the land were transferred to Arshad’s personal account, he added.
Sources privy to the investigators said that all the accused in the DHA land scandal have been included in the Exit Control List (ECL) while their assets have been frozen.
The accountability bureau is pursuing several important cases which directly or indirectly involve big fish of the country. One of the ongoing cases alleges former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain of corruption. An accountability court in Karachi has remanded the alleged criminal in NAB s custody for 14 days.

The prosecutor had claimed in the last hearing of the case that 80 percent of Dr Asim s transactions have been traced and evidences of money laundering have surfaced.
