Summary Rangers is being marginalized in statements for the past 3 days: Nisar

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar has said that Karachi operation is being detracked. He said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) should not make Karachi operation controversial over one person, reports Dunya News. Nisar warned that if allegations against Rangers were not stopped he would release the video of Dr. Asim Hussain s statement and evidence against him for all to see.

Talking at a press conference, Chaudhary Nisar said that Karachi operation began on the request of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) while Farooq Sattar had said himself that Karachi should be handed over to Army. Citing Army’s commitments in war against terror, Nisar said that Pakistan Army cannot be made to stand in the streets of Karachi.

Nisar stated that there had been trivial differences with PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari in the past but there was no animosity between them. Nisar further added that making a mockery of Karachi operation and Rangers will not be good for anybody.

Nisar said that all parties had been taken on board at the beginning of operation. He said that federal government has never taken credit of Karachi operation. The federal minister said that it had provided support to provincial government and Rangers in its own jurisdiction.

Hailing Karachi operation as a success, Chaudhary Nisar said that the state of the city in June 2013 and the present speaks volumes of the ongoing operation. He said that for the past two weeks, it has been seen that Karachi operation is being detracked while Rangers is being marginalized in statements for the past 3 days.

The Federal government had earlier stated that it may exercise its right to extend Rangers’ powers if provincial government of Sindh fails to do so. The Federal government has a few options regarding the deployment of Rangers in Karachi for the operation.

The first option it has is to apply Article 148 of the constitution according to which the government is obliged to comply with Federal laws in favour of the province.

The second option is Article 149 according to which the Federal government can advise on establishing peace and stability in the province which the provincial government is bound to follow.

The third option is to apply the Anti-Terrorism Act according to which the Federation can send security force into the province.

The last option is to apply Governor rule according to which the Federal government can control the activities and decision making of the province through its representative Governor.
