Tensions between Nisar, Asif heighten, PML-N leadership anxious

Dunya News

Recent exchange of harsh words between PML-N bigwigs dashed any hopes of reconciliation

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Tensions between Defence Minsiter Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan have risen to new levels in the recent days and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leadership is extremely worried over this tussle between the two bigwigs of the party. Moreover, the recent exchange of harsh statements between both the leaders has also dashed any hopes of reconciliation, reported Dunya News.

The cracks between Khawaja Asif and Chaudhry Nisar began to show when Sharif brothers returned to Pakistan from exile. Parting of the ways between the two leaders was complete when Khawaja Asif tried to replace Chauhdry Nisar as the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly during Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) rule.

The gaps widened even further over awarding of tickets during 2013 elections and both the leaders kept criticizing each other in private meetings without naming anyone.

Party leader Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif paid special attention to the differences between Asif and Nisar and asked Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and Railways Minister Saad Rafique to get the two bigwigs reconcile. However, any hopes of reconciliation have died out after the recent exchange of harsh statements between Khawaja Asif and Chaudhyr Nisar. PML-N leadership is now trying to strike a ceasefire between them.

Party sources said that Khawaja Asif was wrong in criticizing Chaudhry Nisar in the open. They said that Asif was the first to issue a negative statement. They said that Chaudhry Nisar had the right to answer him but he answered the questions raised by Defence Minister in a press conference instead of talking face-to-face.

The tensions between the ruling party have started to show during the recent days all of a sudden. Although the issues between PML-N leaders existed for years and were almost always known but the sudden outburst of several leaders against each other just before the local body elections has almost rocked the party leadership. Chaudhry Sher Ali, PML-N leader from Faisalabad and father of Federal Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, went as far as threatening to leave the party and bring the workers on the roads.

Talking to media in Faisalabad earlier today, Chaudhry Sher Ali stated that the party leadership is humiliating their workers using Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.

He alleged that Rana Sanaullah has murdered twenty people in Faisalabad.

The former PML-N MNA warned that Sanaullah will not be able to enter Faisalabad without their permission.

Criticising the Punjab Chief Minister, he said that Shahbaz Sharif cannot control Lahore. He claimed that he will soon cut tail and ear of the fake ‘lion’.

Meanwhile, responding to the accusations, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Chaudhry Sher Ali is mentally unstable and he is blackmailing the party leadership to appoint his son as mayor of Faisalabad.

He said the decision of Faislabad’s mayorship will be taken by the party leadership after local government elections.
