Punjab LB polls: CJ LHC forms full bench to hear candidates' pleas

LAHORE/FAISALABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC) Manzoor Ahmad Malik on Thursday has formed a full bench to hear pleas of candidates participating in Punjab local bodies elections.

The candidates had already submitted petitions against various decisions of returning officers and single bench. The participants stated that verdicts were announced contrary to the facts.

The candidates further told the court that violation of rules and regulations is being observed during election prep and showed reservations over nomination papers, over voters’ registration and suggestions of supported providers as voter.

CJ LHC established a three-member bench presided over by Ali Shah. Other members also included Justice Ayesha A. Malik and Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi.

Meanwhile in Faisalabad, district administration has imposed Section-144 post armed scuffles in the metropolis. The authorities have barred the candidates from holding rallies and exhibiting weapons.

The decision came in as political leaders faced threats and terrorization.

Recently, at least one person sustained injuries in a shooting incident on a party’s procession at Jhang Road. The injured were shifted to the Allied Hospital for medical assistance where doctor showed satisfaction over his health.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) while reviewing its earlier proposed schedule decided to hold first phase of local bodies (LB) polls in Punjab on October 3. The electoral exercise will be held in 12 districts of the Punjab.

Polling for the second phase will be held on November 19 this year in Khanewal, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, M.B.Din, Attock and Jhelum districts.

Moreover, the third phase will commence on December 3 in Lyyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhawalpur, Rajan Pur, Rahim yar Khan , Multan, Rawalpindi, Muzaffar Garh, Narowal, Jhang and Khoshab.
