Summary Benazir listened to Musharraf's phone in Tom Lantos' office, says Mark Siegel in his statement
RAWALPINDI: (Dunya News) – American journalist Mark Siegel has on Thursday stated before the court that former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf linked martyred former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s security to better relations with him. He told that Benazir listened to Musharraf’s phone in US Congress member Tom Lantos’ office, reported Dunya News.
In his statement recorded through video link, key witness in Benazir murder case Mark Siegel said that Musharraf linked Benazir’s security to better relations with him. Siegel got his statement recorded through a video link and the court rejected the objection raised by Musharraf’s lawyer.
Siegel revealed in his statement that Musharraf told Benazir that her life was in danger and that her security was linked to better relations with him. Siegel told that he was with Benazir when the former president made the threat call. He said that Benazir listened to this phone call in Tom Lantos’ office and Benazir looked quite troubled after the call.
The American journalist said that Benazir Bhutto sent him an urgent e-mail warning him that if she got assassinated, Pervez Musharraf will be responsible for it. He said that Golf Agency recorded the call in which Benazir’s murder was planned.
Siegel further stated that there were no jammers on Benazir’s truck when the Karachi tragedy took place. He said that Benazir informed him about the threats to her life in their last meeting also.
Pervez Musharraf’s lawyer Ilyas Siddiqui said while arguing his case that Mark Siegel abstained from adding UN commission’s report on Benazir’s murder in his statement.
