I started taking feedback on phone in 1998, things change, social media is the way now, says CM

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday interacted with the Facebook fans and answered their questions. He said that he started taking feedback from the people of Punjab during his first tenure as CM Punjab in 1998.  “But that used to be on phone. Now things have changed. Social media is the new way and I’m going to answer your questions here now”, said the CM.

In a video uploaded on his official Facebook page, CM Punjab answered the questions of the people. Questions were asked from various parts of Punjab from the CM and he responded to their questions through the video message.

Responding to a question from Ahsen Khan, a resident of Kabirwala, Shahbaz Sharif said that farmers are the backbone of Punjab’s economy. He admitted that the rice prices dropped last year and the manufacturers exploited the poor farmers. He informed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had taken the notice of the issue at that time and had disbursed billions of rupees in order to assist the farmers but the provincial government was unable to pass on the relief to the farmers in the proper manner. “But this time it will not be the same. We are monitoring the situation closely. I met the farmers yesterday and have discussed the matter in detail. However, it is pertinent to mention here that while it is the government’s duty to facilitate the famers, it is also important that the productivity increases”, he said.

CM also told that billions of rupees have been spent on agriculture during the last 7 years of his government. He said that tractors were provided to the famers at lower rates and there were other projects in collaboration with the World Bank through which we facilitated the farmers. “We also try our best to provide around half of the seed to the farmers. We take pride in the fact that our government had set the price of wheat at Rs. 900 for the first time”, he added.

Responding to a question from Jehlum, Shahbaz Sharif said that Land Revenue Management Information System (LRMIS) has started in 143 of the Tehsils of Punjab. He said that this system is a technology-based system and the unholy alliance between the ‘Patwari’ and the ‘Tehsildar’ is being broken through modern technology and educated officers. “Data related to 55 million people has been recorded under this system so far. It in itself is a historic step”, he said.

Shahbaz Sharif also answered other questions from the people living in various parts of the country and discussed issues ranging from water reservoirs and floods to Punjab Drug Act. The video can be seen here:
